Why the school day breaks generic attendance software
Business attendance software assumes people arrive, work and leave. A school day does not work like that, and the mismatch shows up in the first week.
Arrival is a spike, not a flow
Two hundred staff arrive inside fifteen minutes. Anything that takes more than a few seconds per person, or depends on queuing at a device, will be worked around by the second week.
A teacher cannot leave a class to fix a record
Corrections have to be possible later, by someone else, with a trail. A system that requires the individual to resolve their own exception at the time assumes a desk job.
Cover is arranged before 7:30am
An absent teacher is not an HR record to process — it is a class that needs someone in front of it this morning. Absence data that surfaces the next day solves the wrong problem.
Part-time and peripatetic staff are normal
Music teachers across three campuses, part-timers on three days, exam invigilators for two weeks. Systems that assume a fixed weekly pattern produce constant false exceptions for a large share of the roll.
Term structure is not a calendar month
Terms, half-terms, INSET days and exam periods all behave differently. Attendance percentages calculated against a generic working month misrepresent every one of them.
The records get examined
